So this is my new hair colour! I really like it but it is fading an awful lot already ): I bleached my hair over my red that was quite faded after a couple of months of not dying it and then toned it, it was quite patchy after that with some bits a lovely silvery colour, some bits orangey copper and some yellowy blonde so I decided to go right ahead and put the purple on, I really like it but it is going to take a lot of maintenance to keep it looking like this! I'd love the ends to be a lot darker too so that's maybe what I will do next :)
Just a quick post, hopefully I will get an outfit post up tomorrow!

ReplyDeleteI have been using Directions hair dyes for ages, so I may have a few tips ;).
To be honest with the red hair dyes, I have used Tangerine, Poppy Red, Vermilion and Fire and all have the same lasting power. I think it's just the red dye molecules in general.
However I would say they last considerably longer in my hair than other box red hair dyes. I would first bleach my hair all over 30 Vol then apply the dye around 8pm, put a shower cap on and sleep with the dye in my hair overnight :). When showering only use cold water and the red should stay for at least 3 weeks until it fades to that horrible orange colour. This is what worked for me.
With the purple, I used Lilac on the ends of my hair which was rubbish! I would bleach the ends same as usual and it would literally only last like 4 days maximum! Don't know what it is about that dye!
Currently I have used Turquoise and Alpine Green mixed together which, surprisingly enough, I dyed the ends ONCE (did the same as before slept in the dye then washed it out, only using cold water in showers) and it has faded slightly more green but I haven't had to dye it in over a month and a half!! :O
So like I said I think it just depends on the colour, I used all of these from Directions and as they are the same brand I can only gather that the differences are to do with the size of the colour molecule.
As another tip, try not to wash your hair that often as that can often lead to it fading quickly. I wash my hair every other day and it is fine :) not greasy.
